Poland in the Europe of Tommorow
- Details
On November 18-19, 2021, the Future Studies "Poland 2000 Plus" and Team Europe, in cooperation with the Representation of the European Commission in Warsaw, organized a conference entitled
„Poland in the Europe of Tomorrow. European policy Polish in the context of international changes of the twenty-first century”.
Some of the papers were based on the publication entitled "Polska w Europie jutra" (only in Polish), which is downloadable by clicking on the link.
The organizers of the conference also published a memorial (only in Polish temporarily) available in an electronic version on the Committee's website.
The beginning of the third decade of the twenty-first century heralds a significant widening of uncertainty about future directions in which the world, Europe and Poland are heading. The threats that seem certain are already visible in various areas, such as the international order, climate change, the values that underpin liberal democracy or the dominant economic pattern. It is still unknown how far the ongoing pandemic will be controlled, nor what will be its consequences.
These threats are global in nature, but to varying degrees affect the political and social situation in the European Union countries and in individual regions of the world. On the global stage, in addition to attempts to consolidate regional economic and political agreements, we are also observing an increase in the imperial ambitions of some countries. These ambitions may soon take on a more confrontational form in the economic or even military dimension.
Europe has no better prospect than far-reaching integration. Therefore, its deepening is an imperative – despite the short-sighted policies of some European leaders, and even against them. Achieving this requires a thorough overhaul of europeans' consciousness.
The aim of the conference is to indicate the direction of development of European integration and such a Polish foreign policy towards Europe which, are the most beneficial for our country and the European Union. There are many indications that without a clear wishful thinking about the future, it is difficult to find an ambitious programme for Europe and Poland. Therefore, quite consciously we want to present something that is most often qualified as wishful thinking.
Of course, one cannot abstract from existing conditions, both local and global. However, we want to treat the adaptation of current policy to the various conditions of Europe and Poland as a task for intellectuals, experts and responsible politicians, for whom the most rational and most beneficial direction of development for Europeans will be a determinant. European Polish policy should also actively support this direction and work towards gaining support for it by the other Member States.
The conference is a part of European conference about Future of Europe. The sections of the conference are presented separately on European web page:
The European Union and the world after the pandemic
The European Union in the vanguard of adaptation to climate change
What happens to democracy and capitalism in Europe and the world?
The imperative of deepening European integration
Democratic Poland in the big five of the EU
